An honest reflection, Stanford = Awesome
Hi there,
I am really looking forward to Labor Day weekend.
Right now I have just the backbone for EPIC Medicine. I need to work on making it *pretty* and get all the kinks figured out before I publish. Also need to set up the contents. Luckily, the materials are already written, and I just need to organize the site before importing the articles. These will be coming from the old PCPR website of BeAGoodDoctor from where EPIC Medicine was born.
If you would like to have input and check out preview, I am doing a Google hangout on the first Saturday night of October. I will send you the link to Google hangout invite- simply subscribe to my blog at the bottom or contact me if interested :]
I reflected a bit on my timeline in one of my blogs. I would say my project would be doable over the summer if I am just working on this project alone. As a typical Stanford student, of course there were many other things that came up AFTER I had applied for the program, and I was optimistic about my timeline. Perhaps TSF could have the application out in late spring (ideally due mid may) instead so that students know what summer opportunities they have and what they can take on. I believe I applied in winter, and we technically got in touch and got started in summer.
That being said, given the chance to re-do I would still take on this project within a heartbeat. The TSF support has been amazing, and I also appreciated learning new skills through this project. As I have mentioned, I have never built a website before and have no experience in computer science. (CS) Quite amazing that I am in Stanford, at the heart of Silicon Valley and somehow have managed to avert a CS class. For better or worse, I am learning a lot on my own.
In some way, I like having control over what I am learning how it's related to my projects. The only downside is lack of expert guidance. I hope to fulfill this gap by meeting with CS faculty and students during the fall for consultation. I love that people here are open and encouraging- it's a feature at Stanford that we should not take for granted.
On a random note to show my love for Stanford, here's an oil painting I did. It's a bit blurry, and I was still learning at the time.
I am excited to have some new input.
Warmly,
Vy
